The Challenge
The FDA had issued a decree that all information regarding buying/selling on the Nasdaq stock exchange should be made available to the general public. Hello helped turning this challenge into a great opportunity by making the Nasdaq Market Replay application.

The Solution
The idea was to do a ‘player’ which was able to sample a period of time from the market and replay the transactions at the user’s own convenience. The requested sample would be downloaded into the application where you can replay it in real-time – but also dive down into milliseconds – and track the transactions on a micro level. The application was built using the Adobe AIR framework, which allows a lot of different information to plug into the same application in a very smooth and integrated manner – combining offline content, application features, live data, etc. into one seamless experience.

The Result
When you are able to time-stretch a dataset as immense and fine-grained as this, make it available on demand – and above all present it in a manner that is both user-friendly and visually appealing, then you have a very interesting research tool that invites you to delve into complex information at your own pace. Quickly becoming a huge PR success for Nasdaq, the Market Replay application has bolstered Nasdaq’s long term position as a key player among stock market trading platforms.
